Maine Lumberjacks           18 7
4     I'm standing on the hillside
Where thousands they lie here, Whose pleasant smile and gentle voice
Was to our hearts most dear; As in their narrow beds they lie,
The thoughts they come and go, Of faces that we loved so well
In years so long ago.
5     I stood beneath monument
That rose up toward the sky, And read the names of those I knew
Who wandered forth to die; To save for us a Union
In this land we love so true, Who gave their lives on the battlefield,
In that old coat of blue.
6     Now Thomas N/Egery is buried here,
And Congressman Boutelle, With Edward R. Adams and William H. Whitemore
In life was known so well; And George D. Harden and Edward Neally
Their bodies 'neath the clay Their spirits passed those gates ajar
To the Eternal Day.
7     I'm looking at the old fort
The dry leaves rustling 'round And memories they come back to me I hear the bugle sound;
